Approximately fifty players and supporters assembled in the Clubhouse last night (4th November) for the annual Presentation Dinner.
After a meal of Roast Beef followed by Eton Mess or Brownies, Club President, NEVILLE DENNETT, standing in for Chair, Steve Vickery, welcomed the guests and said that on the whole the Club had enjoyed a successful season. The 1st XI had finished third, just nine points off the top spot, and may have been promoted had it not been for some poor results at the beginning of the season. The 2nds finished fifth which was commendable as they were nearly always playing against 1st XIs. The 3rds finished sixth which, had it not been for penalty points handed down by WCCL for a 2022 misdemeanour, might have been fourth, while the 4s finished fourth having pressed the leaders all season. The 4s could be commended for being able to field eleven players every week, this undoubtedly being down to the number of Academy players making senior debuts. It is hoped their much-needed commitment would continue.
Neville completed his introduction by presenting bouquets of flowers to LIZ BARKER, GEMMA APLIN and ALI KING for their valued contributions to the Club throughout the year.
Neville then introduced JOHN GALE for the presentation of commemorative scorecards for maiden centuries or five wickets in an innings.
John prefaced his awards by thanking the Club Captains for their reviews of the season which they had contributed to the brochure a copy of which had been printed for all attendees. He went on to publicise the annual volume of ‘Performance Stats’ he produces at the end of the season in which there are details of all matches and player performances.
Framed scorecards were handed out to JAMES FROST for his 5 for 38 for the 4s against Calne 4ths; to CALLUM SANDELL for his 6 for 23 for the 2nds at Trowbridge; to JOSH STANLEY for his five-wicket haul for the 1sts at Hatherley & Reddings; and to STUART WARNER for his 6 for 36 for the 2nds at Biddestone 1sts.
Batters making maiden centuries included SIMON CRAMPTON’s 113 for the 2nds against Avebury; JAMES EDMUND for his 121 for the 4ths at Warminster 4ths; and AJAY MOMI for his truly memorable 160 in 132 balls for the 1sts at Goatacre.
